Introduction:
Chaitanya Smruthi, the alumn
i association of CBIT has been an integral part of the college establishment since its inception in 1984. Engineers graduating from the portals of the college have made a mark for themselves all over the world, in every walk of life. With this vast diversity in careers and wider geographical boundaries of our alumni, the alumni association’s role in providing the networking platform became especially critical.

History of Chaitanya Smruthi:
The alumni association was first f
ormed in 1984 when the graduating class decided to establish a system to continue to be in touch with their friends. They decided to call this organization, Chaitanya Smruthi, the guiding light for all CBIT graduates. From 1984, as CBIT graduates started looking at higher studies and newer careers in different parts of the world, Chaitanya Smruthi continued to be the node through which alumni could get in touch with their batch-mates and to get in sync with the developments of the college. Into the 1990’s, when the software boom took place and introduced globalization in a big way, the need for a focal point for all graduates to get in touch with each other became extremely critical and CS played an important role in this unification. By organizing regular reunions when past students paid a visit to their alma mater and met their friends, CS helped retain the bond between the alumni and the college.

TheBig Year-2001:

This was the big year with the creation of the CS web portal www.cbitworld.com. By providing instan t access to the information to over 10,000 members graduating from college since 1983, the porta l proved to be an invaluable resource to reach alumni across the world. This year also marked an increased level of interaction between the alumni and Reunions became annual, regular events. CS also made a great impact on the minds of the students with their determined efforts to help the students of CBIT succeed in their careers. The students of the college volunteered to help the alumni in the networking efforts. This unique working relationship between the present students and alumni has a huge success since.

The establishment of a working body of present students within the alumni association was a unique concept with tremendous potential. By working with CS, the students of the college continued to help CBIT become a stronger community and also learn a lot from the seniors, both in terms of career knowledge and life-guiding decisions. The student body currently comprises of 60 students, with an executive team of 10 members from the final year leading it. In the past 4 years, the student body has worked with CS to organize annual reunions in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and Carpediem, a bi-annual festival in 2002 and 2004, whose proceeds fund a few financially-challenged students every year.

Alumni Reunions

Reunions are always a matter of joy; this is the time when old memories come gushing back even at the sight of one small relic. A visit to CBIT sure brings back loads ofjoyous memories to all the alumni. For this reason, the yearly reunion is held on campus each year. Not only do all of them get to meet their old friends, re-visit their old memories, they also get to share their recollections of their good ole days with their family too. A number of activities are organized and the working committee does its best to ensure that all the alumni get a chance to re-live their CBIT experience in that one day. With each year the attendance to these reunions is increasing and alumni hope to attend such events more often. Though the essence behind the Reunions is the same each year, every Reunion is unique in its own way; one has to attend these events to experience it. More details about the yearly reunions from 2001 – 2004 can be found here .

Alumni Festivals

Alumni Association not only focuses on its Alumni but is also working towards making the CBIT experience of current students more enriching. The Association believes that ‘All work and no play Jack a dull boy’; with this in mind an annual students-alumni festival called CARPEDIEM was initiated in 2002. CARPEDIEM meaning Seize the Day lives up to its name and offers everyone non-stop activity from the beginning to the end. CARPEDIEM 2002 created history by being the first ever mega event to be conducted on-campus. This event was open to everyone and was not limited to the students of CBIT. This was the first time ever a nationally acclaimed pop band performed on the grounds of CBIT and was attended by more than 5000 people. Since then, CARPEDIEM is being organized once in every two years and has earned itself the honor of being one of the best college festivals conducted in the city. A detailed report of CARPEDIEM 2002 and 2004 can be found at http://cbitworld.com/events

A new-spacious Alumni office:
The CBIT management recognizes the contributions of the Alumni Association to the development of the institute and a new spacious alumni office has been constructed on-campus to help the alumni in its activities. This is the official meeting place for the Board members of the Alumni Association and it also houses the student body meetings. The alumni office is located right near the entrance of CBIT and is a welcome center for all the visitors – who’s better than the Alumni to tell about CBIT!!
Objectives (Short and Long-term)

Short Term: To provide a platform for comprehensive career guidance for the students of CBIT. To keep an updated version of the web portal and provide all alumni and students with the latest information of college.

Long-term: To establish a hostel attached an Old Age home. To strengthen the infrastructure of the college and help develop research facilities for students. To institute scholarships and encourage students to take up higher studies.

  Local and International Chapters:

For logistical reasons, few of the active alumni expressed interest in starting a local US chapter to contribute to their part in bringing in all the alumni together. A new website www.cbitusa.org was launched in 2004 and has received tremendous response from all the alumni and has more than 1000 registered members to date. The main objective of this group is to bring together the CBIT Alumni in the USA and be a liaison and facilitate interaction between CBITUSA members, CBIT Alumni (from India and other parts of the world), CBIT Management & Staff, and CBIT students in leveraging American and Indian resources. Two reunions have been organized so far in the last two years, one at Las Vegas in October 2004 and the other one at New Jersey in March 2005. All the participants felt that such reunions not only helped them get in touch with their old friends, but also gave them a chance to get to know new people too.
