History
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in the year 1985, offering four year B.E degree in Computer Science and Engineering with an in take of 20 students. This is the first batch of Engineering Course in Computer Science in the University itself. About 17 batches took B.E degree as on 2005 from this department. The fist batch came out in 1989 with 100% Distinctions.

Results
Most of the students pass out with distinction and leave the college with degree and an offer letter in one of the reputed companies. Students of CSE department are very active in organizing events. Every year students of C.S.E organize a technical event at national level namely HeadStart-2005, Head Start-2004 etc. Our students also contribute several papers every year at national and international conferences. It is also observed that students of C.S.E are very good at games and other cultural activities. Several students go abroad every year to participate in cultural activities.

Alumni
Our Alumni performance is extremely good. Several companies offered very high positions to our past students looking at the performance. Some people are at vice president position at U.S corporates. Several students have their own companies meeting international standards. Lot of research is going on by our alumni especially in the area of Telecom, Computer networks and CAD & GIS products. We are proud to say that our alumni contributed a lot for the most reputed international products.

Faculty
The Department of C.S.E has several senior faculties who have more than 10 years experience. We have two professors with more than 35 years of experience. The minimum experience of Assistant Professor in C.S.E department at present is more than five years. We have people with industrial experience. We have some people from defence organizations. Some of them participated and provided extensive field level technical support in Military Operations. Department has staff with different backgrounds especially Mechanical, Civil, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering.

Research Work at CSE-CBIT:
Our department is very rich in research work. Several papers are published every year both at national and international conferences. Research is going on in different domains namely Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Mobile Communications, Bio Informatics and Distributed systems. The department has produced three Ph.D thesis as on Today. We have senior professor who took Ph.D (in Computer Science) from I.I.Sc Bangalore, in the year 1986. More than ten staff members are doing research at C.S.E department.

Our Products and Professional Contributions
Recently we have designed and developed an E-College system to computerize all processes of a huge educational institute. It is well tested and in us at C.B.I.T. Entire product is designed and developed at C.B.I.T. We have organized several technical workshops at national level to train professionals in VLSI, Embedded systems, Remote sensing, Networking, and Distributed systems. Our staff members are involved in training several professional bodies and government organizations. Department has deputed professionals to organize training at organizations like Wipro and some government organizations. We have published several books to help some government organizations. We have released several multimedia materials to train students.

Laboratories:
We have ten laboratories with about 300 systems. We have leased line with 512 KBPS. We are managing web servers. www.cbit.ac.in is managed by department of C.S.E. We have several servers on Intranet to manage college data. We have Video conferencing facility connected to SONET, J.N.T.U. Total C.B.I.T Network in designed, installed and managed by C.S.E faculty. We have MOU with Microsoft to use their product. In addition to it we are running all labs with licensed software. Our department is capable of conducting online examination. Several organizations took help from us to conduct online examinations.

Membership and MOUs:
We have MOU with several Professional organizations. Our staff is active members of IEEE, CSI, IETE and ISTE. Almost all staff members are life members of IETE and ISTE. Some of them are FIETE. Department is helping other universities in academic activities.
