4 year B.E. course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Production Engineering
2 year M.E. Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization CAD/CAM

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1979 at the time of CBIT inception. The department initially started with an intake of 60 students in Mechanical Engineering and the very next year another stream of production Engineering with an intake of 60 too was started. The department has established well-equipped laboratories covering all the specialized areas of Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering. The department has taken up a lot of fabrication work for the institution over a period of time. The department has been very active in organizing various programmes of general and academic interest.

The faculty of department handled sponsored research projects from AICTE, UGC and BHEL to a tune of Rs 60 Lakhs, and established specialized facilities in Turbomachinery lab, Metal forming lab, Machine Tools Lab, Metrology & Instrumentation Lab and CAD/CAM lab. The faculties of the department have organized number of ISTE sponsored and self-financing courses for the training and development of faculty/ industry personnel in various emerging areas viz., Numerical Methods in 1996, computer aided design and analysis in 1999, Finite element simulations in metal forming in 2003 and Refrigeration and Air conditioning in 2005.

The department has started postgraduate programme M.E with specialization in CAD/CAM with an intake of 25 in the year 2002. The department has well equipped CAD/CAM facilities viz., a Denford (UK) make 8-Sation Vertical Machining Center, a CNC lathe, and a 5-axis robot (FANUC make) and software like AUTOCAD, ANSYS, SOLID WORKS, HYPER MESH, CATIA, DEFORM-2D and LS-DYNA. A specialized setup of load cells interfaced to the computer are available in Metal forming and Metal cutting labs for online measurement of loads in various operations. NOx Analyser and AVL smoke meter is available for measuring pollution levels of petrol and diesel in the department.

Many eminent personalities having expertise in their respective fields worked in the department over the years. To name few are Dr V.Kamala , Dr. P.Narasimha Reddy, Dr. B.Prabhakar Reddy, Dr C.M.Varaprasad, Dr T.A.Janardhan Reddy, Prof K.Sitaram and Prof. Ch.Lakshman Rao. Dr P.Jayapal Reddy has been the Head of the Department since inception till date.
